In His Own Words:

I am Gage, and the captain of the UCSD Triton water polo team. Water polo is life, and life is a competition. Second place is little more than a participation ribbon. If you want to team with me, you need to practice every day. Not just in the pool, but on dry land, too. Victory is not easy, and there is no time in the world for fun and games. As a captain, I expect the best from my team, and I expect myself to provide the best to the team. Any less equals failure.

Q&A Time

What is your biggest fear?

As much as I love being competitive, the biggest fear for me is losing a pivotal game. All games are stakes of life or death, some more than others. The score at the end is the one that matters the most.

Describe your ideal date.

First of all, I will never date anyone who is not a water polo player. I would say I'm married to the game, but that's simply not true. My boyfriend and I would talk about the game, play one-on-one, or watch a big tournament. Basically buddy, if there's no water polo in one form or another, then the date is a failure.

What moment in your life gave the biggest impact?

Making captain of the UCSD Tritons water polo team. Before that, it would have been my high school team, then my 12U, and I can keep going back from there. Since three years old, I knew that water polo was going to be my favorite pastime. Being a captain for a long time, and for many different teams, has given me immense leadership skills and friendships that can never be broken.

What would you do with a million dollars?

Spend a month in Europe. Nowhere in particular, but take in all of it.

If you were President of the United States, and no one could question your authority, what would your first law be?

Water polo will be the national sport, and will be televised. I’ll form a league of 32 teams as well.

If you can travel to any country (besides the United States), where would you go?

Anywhere in Eastern Europe. They have some of the best water polo teams out there. Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the list goes on.

Would you rather be rich or famous?

I came from a well-off family, so I have some perspective on having a privileged life. When you have a lot of money, you become famous, but not in a good way.

What is your favorite thing to do in San Diego?

Playing water polo at UCSD. That or swimming.

If you were stuck alone on a deserted island with nothing but the clothes on your back, how would you pass the time before being rescued?

Nothing at all? If I can make a spear out of a tree branch, then I’d go spear fishing in the ocean. That’ll cover food. With a shelter made of palm leaves, I’d be okay until the search helicopters come.

If you played a standard MMORPG, which of the following roles would you play? (Tank, Healer, Damage)

I have no idea what an MMORPG is, but from what Drake has told me, I’d make a good damage dealer. Now if they had online water polo, I’d sign up for that.

If you could teach a school subject to a group of high schoolers, what would it be and why?

This might shock you, but I’m actually a bit of a history buff. While I can’t get into politics because Jason will kick me off the site, it’s important for everyone to be educated about current events including elections. It’s not a political message to encourage people to read or watch credible news, then make their decisions based on objective facts and who will be the best for the community.
